Today was moving day again. We are leaving Waikiki and heading to the north shore of Oahu.
We went back to our new-found place for breakfast across the street and had a great breakfast special, then went back to the hotel to pack up and check out.
Having done so, we needed to find a battery for Bob's camera, and thought we'd do a bit of shopping for our place on the north shore. So we went to Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, it didn't have much of either. We picked up a few items for our store, but Bob didn't get his camera battery. We went to the Ala Moana Shopping Centre. An amazing "mall" that is partially covered over, and partially open to the skies. It was a beautiful spot. He found his battery at a camera shop, and bought a charger as well.
After finishing with the shopping thing, we went off to find 'Iolani Palace, the King Kamehameha Statue, and the State Capitol Building. We found them all in the same general location! Here's a shot of the Palace built by King David Kalakaua in 1882.
You can walk around the grounds and we see these amazing trees everywhere.
Then we caught the 3 kings. Guess which king you've seen before...on a hit TV show?
And the State Capitol Building. Very unique in its design. Not the usual dome, but rather speaks to its heritage. A beautiful design open in the middle - through as well as to the sky.
When we were finished walking around this area, we drove up to Pu'u Ualaka'a State Wayside Park that overlooks Honolulu and Waikiki. It's an amazing view!
Waikiki and Diamond Head.
Looking out to the airport.
It was a beautiful spot and there are so many more pictures, but I can't upload all of them here.
We then headed out of Honolulu toward our place on the north shore. We were going right by the Dole Planation (can you say pineapple?), so stopped there.
There are many activities one can do. One is a maze where you need to find 8 secret locations. It was quite fun - I won't tell you how many we found. Bob, Gerard and I did this, while Bev went to the garden tour.
We continued on to our new place, called Kawela Kai, on the north shore of Oahu. It's amazing! We just love it! This shot is from inside our place looking out through the patio doors.
And this is what we're looking at. Just can't stop staring and gawking. I'm sure I'll be taking a gazillion of these over the next couple of days.
We had a great dinner tonight of salmon and the fixin's. Tomorrow involves some relaxing and checking out the surf beaches. Til then!
I don't blame you for gawking ... that's a great scenery to have right outside your door.
