Life's a Beach

Monday morning in Kauai...rising to the roosters crowing, and crowing, and crowing, and crowing. What's with this? Apparently, some hurricane a while back freed all the chickens on the island. Now you see them everywhere, and they just run around wild. I caught one of the little !#%(*!s trying to get away.

We ground some local coffee beans, made some coffee, and headed down to the beach to sit a spell. What a wonderful way to kick the day off.

And, yes, that is the sunrise over the point. It was early, but we're still somewhat on eastern time, although with the drugs I took yesterday (Lorazepam), I sure didn't have any problems sleeping on the planes. Yahoo! So we actually slept in fairly well this morning.

This is a shot of the "surf shack" where we're staying. It's a great little 2-bedroom cottage that's ideal for us. Steps from the beach, and fully stocked.

But we didn't have any food in the place, so made a list and headed into Kapa'a to a Safeway. (John, Gerard had to apply for ANOTHER card, and he'll tell them there's an imposter out there, using his name.) But on the way we thought we would check out the first of many waterfalls.

Gerard loves driving this snazzy Mustang convertible.

I was told this is not how you get into a convertible. What do I know?

Looks like this guy had trouble making it down the dirt road, and never made it back up. We didn't check for a body.

This is the worst that happened to us. We're going to have to scrub these babies.

Oh well, it was fun getting down to these falls, called Ho'opi'i Falls. Cute.

We headed off to the grocery store then went back to our shack for lunch and headed out to spend the afternoon on the beach, and ultimately relaxing on the lounges in our yard. Not sure what this bird was going to do, but he was hanging out over top of Gerard.

And talk about spiders! Just a few hanging around. Yikes!

Great motto to live by. This is on the side of our "surf shack".

And ended off with a great dinner of rib-eye steak on the BBQ.

Tomorrow is a big day...if it doesn't rain. Forecast doesn't look good.

Aloha 'til then!

  1. Tell Gerard he should have given them my name when he applied for the card, and then we could have swapped cards this summer! Great pictures...

  2. LOL. Enjoyed your post. I'm sure that is the way into the convertible after too many Mai Tai's. That is some shack! Looks awesome. Enjoy. Glad you are not at Honolulu as they had an active volcano we heard.
