Aloha Kauai

Today is moving day. We're leaving the beautiful island of Kauai and going over to the island of Oahu for 4 days. It's sad to be leaving, but we're excited to move on to the next stage of our trip. We're meeting up with our friends Bob and Bev Thompson who are flying in to Honolulu at about 9 p.m. tonight. We'll be staying for a couple of days at a hotel on Waikiki Beach, then on the north shore for a couple of days.

We learned from the TV last night that daylight savings time starts today, so before Gerard went to bed, he turned all the clocks in the cottage, and his watch, ahead an hour. Well, we checked this morning, and lo and behold, Hawaii doesn't change to daylight savings time. So he had to change all the clocks back. So, now we're 6 hours behind you people in Ontario, not 5.

We cleaned up and packed up and chatted with Lynne (our hostess/owner) for a while. Very friendly lady, born and raised on Oahu, and has lived on Kauai a long time. No big hurry to get under way. But at some point, we had to go. We really enjoyed the Surf Shack. It was just a little cottage home away from home. It's giving me ideas about a trip in the future...hmmm.

This little guy came to say good-bye to us as we were sitting on the veranda.

On the way to the airport we stopped at 'Opaeka'a Falls. A pretty little waterfall, on the Wailua River (just like the one from yesterday).

Of course there were chickens there.

Our flight was on time, and we arrived in Oahu around 3:15. We picked up our car at Alamo and headed off to our hotel at Waikiki Beach. Little did we know, there was a parade starting at 4:30, so they closed off the main road through Waikiki. Aaaagggghhh. It took almost an hour from the main highway to get to our hotel. Reminds me of the 401. Oh well...patience, right?

In any case, we went off to the Halekulani Hotel for drinks, listening to Hawaiian music, watching Hawaiian hula, and watching the sunset over Waikiki Beach. Doesn't get much better than this.
We found a cute little pizza place to have some dinner before heading off to the airport to pick up Bob and Bev Thompson at about 9:15 p.m. These are the Lava Flows we had to go with the pizza (Gerard's was only a smoothie since he was driving...I had the regular).

After returning to the hotel, we went across the street to a little bar, and had a mai tai with the Thompsons before bed. Nice end to the day!
