Hana Highway

Today was the long drive day. We got up early and left the condo shortly after 7 am to drive the Hana Highway. It's not that the miles are so long, but it takes hours, especially if you want to stop and see anything along the way. The Hana Highway is known for all the waterfalls, the lush vegetation, and the scenery of the shore. There are so many pictures, it will be hard to pick just a few. But, here goes...

Here's the first waterfall we came to called Lower Puohokamoa Falls. It's not just the waterfall, but the fact that it falls into these pools at the bottom, making them so...Maui.

This was taken at Kaumahina State Wayside, for restrooms and views.

We went down the Ke'anae Road to check out the scenery at the shore. (OK, Andrea, are you happy there are now some pictures of me on this blog?)

And also the banana bread. It was really good. And since we had such an early start, it was just an early morning snack.
This shot was at the shore of the town of Ke'anae. It must be incredible having this wave action in your backyard all the time. Although, most of this village was wiped out during a tidal wave several years ago.
This is just some of the greenery along the way on the Hana Highway.

And this pond is at Pua'a Ka'a State Park...just another pond in the area. Everything is just so lush and beautiful.
This was a banana tree there.
We had lunch at Wai'anapanapa Park where there were all kinds of things to see. A black sand beach, a blowhole, caves, and the incredible ocean, of course. Again, only one picture, because I took so many and can't fill this blog with pictures.

This is a shot of the harbour in Hana. We did make it there.

Then we turned around and drove back. On the way, we picked up a flower at this stand.

We drove down Nahiku Road. Not sure where we were going there, but the foliage was amazing, and the treat at the end of the road was, as usual, beautiful.

This is a shot looking at the Hana Highway on the side of the hill. The road is so windy "it would break a snake's back", as my mother would have said.

On the way back to our condo, we happened to see this whale (or whales) kicking up a fuss in the ocean. I know you can see it!

The bird of paradise we purchased in Hana is now in our condo. We won't let it fly up our nose.

We've had enough driving for the day. Considering it took us about 10 hours, to Hana and back, including all the stops we made, it's no wonder we're kind of whipped. We can sleep in tomorrow.
